Joe’s Bevel & Emboss creates four types of bevel and emboss effects inside Final Cut Pro. These effects work with any transparent clip and all attributes can be animated with keyframes.

Controls

Bevel Type (Inner Bevel, Outer Bevel, Emboss, Pillow Emboss)

Sets the type of bevel effect to generate.

Angle (-360 - 360)

The angle of offset, this is sometimes referred to as a ‘global light’.

Depth (0 - 250)
-
The apparent depth of the bevel effect, affects the distance between the highlight and shadow shapes offset across the direction specified in ‘Angle’.

Soften (0 - 100)
-
Blur amount of the bevel shapes.

Shrink/Grow (-100 - 100)
-
Expands or contracts the bevel shapes. Limited by the current ‘Soften’ value.

Background

The clip to composite behind the drop shadow effect

Light, Shadow

Specifies the colors for the highlight and shadow shapes.

Highlight, Shadow Opacity (0 - 100)

Composite opacity of the highlight and shadow shapes.

Highlight, Shadow Mode

Sets the composite mode of the highlight and shadow shapes. Effect must use a background clip to see different compositing modes.

Opaque Edges

Also applies the bevel effect to the frame edges.

Effect Only

Toggles the visibility of the original image.

Original Opacity (0 - 100)

Fades out the original image leaving only the bevel effect. Using a background clip will eliminate any potential color casts.
