Joe’s Shapes creates multi-sided geometric shapes with separate options for border, fill, softness and opacity. Shapes can also be applied as frames, border and fill can each be toggled on or off. Joe’s Shapes is based on the same versatile shape engine as Joe’s Soft Shapes.

Borders, Softness & Opacity

The example images for Joe’s Ellipse show the effects of softness, border options, opacity and other controls. Joe’s Shapes and Joe’s Ellipse use the same controls for everything but the shape itself.

Controls

Joe's Shapes Controls

Shape

Width, Height (1 - 1000)
Sets the base dimensions of the shape
Scale (0 - 1000)
Modifies the height and width values
Origin
The center point of the shape.
Sides(3 - 20)
Sets the number of sides of the shape
Angle (-360 - 360)
Rotates the shape.

Fill

Fill Shape
Toggles fill on or off
Fill Color
The color of the fill
Fill Softness (0 - 500)
Amount to blur the filled area, will not affect the border.
Fill Opacity (0 - 100)
Determines the transparency of the fill color.
Fill Frame
Toggles the fill between a shape and a framed area (Positive vs. negative shapes).

Border

Border Shape
Toggles border on or off
Border Color
The color of the border.
Border Width (0 - 100)
The width of the border in pixels. At larger sizes Final Cut will automatically round the border’s corners.
Border Softness (0 - 50)
Amount to blur the border, will not affect the filled area.
Border Opacity (0 - 100)
Determines the transparency of the border color.

Where is Joe’s Shapes?

Joe’s Shapes is located with the rest of Final Cut Pro’s generators. Find them inside the effects tab or use the Generator pop-up menu at the bottom of the Viewer window: Final Cut Pro's generator menu
